Is Fred TV free?

Yes. Fred TV is free and open source. The Microsoft Store, App Store and Google Play versions listings are paid to support developer licenses and development costs associated with managing the app on its various storefronts. Your purchase supports future development, so thank you!

Does Fred TV come with channels?

No. Fred TV is only a player, not a provider. You bring your own playlists or subscriptions. Fred TV doesn't provide, sell or endorse any content.

What's the difference between Fred TV and Fred TV Mobile?

They're two different apps built for different screens.

Fred TV (desktop) is built with Rust and Tauri and plays through mpv. It's packed with power-user features: recording, TV guide, catch-up, re-streaming, custom channels and more.
Fred TV Mobile was built from scratch for touch screens and TV remotes, and runs on Android, iOS/iPadOS and Android TV.

What happened to Open TV?

Due to a trademark dispute, Open TV had to be renamed to Fred TV. Fred is my name, and I figured it would be harder to have problems in the future with such an overly specific name.
